Dana Peterson

Intro

Welcome! My name is Dana Peterson, and this will be my fourth year teaching at CCCBSD. I completed my undergraduate studies in English and Sociology at Gordon College, and continued on at Gordon to complete my Master’s in Special Education.  I began my teaching career as an Early Essential Education (special education preschool) in Vermont, before returning to the North Shore. I will be joined in the classroom by three paraprofessionals. We are very excited for this school year!

About the Class

Our class is designed to meet the various goals of our diverse group of learners. Students work 1:1 with staff daily in order to target individual IEP objectives. Students also participate in group learning activities daily, including morning meeting and a group lesson that targets curriculum areas including ELA, Social Studies, and Science. The class participates in weekly specials as a group- APE, Art, and Music.

Curriculum

This year, our class will be participating in school wide learning themes each quarter:

Quarter 1: All About Me

Quarter 2: Living, Learning, and Working Together

Quarter 3: Helping in the Community

Quarter 4: Space!

Our class will be reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling beginning this fall. We will use this text as our ELA curriculum, and extend our learning in other curriculum areas to relate to the text. The universal themes of friendship, growing up, learning, and new experiences, lend themselves naturally to the school wide themes for this year. We are excited for a magical year of learning!

Specials:

* Music: Mondays

* Art: Tuesdays

*APE: Thursdays
