The Children’s Center for Communication / Beverly School for the Deaf Celebrates 150 Years of Education, Access, and Community

Beverly, MA — [January 15, 2026] — The Children’s Center for Communication/Beverly School for the Deaf (CCCBSD) proudly announces the launch of its 150th anniversary celebration, marking a century and a half of transformative education, advocacy, and community for students and families. Throughout 2026, CCCBSD will host a series of events and initiatives honoring its rich history while looking boldly toward the future.

Founded in 1876, the Beverly School for the Deaf (BSD) is one of the nation’s oldest schools serving Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals and has long been a leader in inclusive, specialized education. In 2004, BSD expanded to become The Children’s Center for Communication/Beverly School for the Deaf (CCCBSD). The organization serves both Deaf and hard-of-hearing students and hearing students with complex communication needs, providing education from infancy through young adulthood through comprehensive programming that includes early intervention, academic instruction, therapeutic services, and family support.

“To reach 150 years is both a tremendous honor and a profound responsibility for our organization,” said Dr. Karen Hopkins, Executive Director and CEO of CCCBSD. “This anniversary gives us an opportunity to celebrate the generations of students, families, and educators, who shaped our legacy while reaffirming our commitment to innovation, inclusion, and excellence for the next 150 years.”

As part of the anniversary launch, CCCBSD is unveiling a commemorative 150th anniversary logo, which will be featured throughout the year across campus, communications, and special events. The logo symbolizes the organization’s enduring mission and evolving vision, honoring its historic roots while highlighting continued growth and impact.

The year-long celebration will include events that spotlight key themes such as Deaf leadership, family partnerships, educational innovation, alumni impact, and performers connected to our community of Deaf, hard of hearing individuals and individuals with disabilities. Events will welcome students, families, alumni, donors, partners, and community members to participate in honoring the past and shaping the future.

“The Board of Trustees is grateful for the support of all who have given their time, money and life’s work to allow our school to provide the highest quality education, programming and support. We are committed to continue growing and expanding our services to enhance the lives of more children, more families and more communities in the years to come” said Aidan Murphy, President of the Board of Trustees.

The anniversary celebration also underscores CCCBSD’s forward-looking focus on expanding early intervention services, strengthening workforce development, and increasing access for families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds across the region.

More information about the 150th anniversary events and initiatives will be shared throughout the year.
